The Christmas Stocking

The Christmas Stocking

The legend of the Christmas stocking comes from St. Nicholas himself.  It was said that when he was giving his riches away he heard of 3 girls that were going to be sold into slavery by their father and he wanted to prevent that from happening.  This story was mentioned in my last post so I will make it short.  He found where they lived and peered through the window.  When he did he saw that the girls had hung their stockings by the fire to dry.  It was late so he decided to throw coins down the chimney and when he did the bag of coins landed in one of the stockings.  Thus the legend began with treats being left in our stockings!
